Google Will Automatically Delete Android Backups

Google will automatically delete Android backups if a device is inactive for two months

This may not be new information, but it’s not well-known information: Google will automatically schedule to delete backups of your Android device if the device is inactive for more than two months.

As noted by Android police (who has been alerted of this PSA by a Reddit user), Google allows backups of your Android mobile device to drive, but these backups will only be kept "as long as you use your device ". If the device is not used for two weeks, then Google Drive will display the expiration date in Backup, showing the countdown for its longest range until it is automatically deleted. (Presumably, if you use an Android device during this time, the expiration date will disappear). After two months of inactivity, the backup will be deleted.

If your backup is deleted, there is no way to restore it, which means that all your settings and data may disappear. Android police say that as long as you have an Android device entering Google's servers every few months, your backups should be fine. To be fair, the removal of accounts and unused data is what many storage companies, but usually come with a clear warning. One user told Reddit that he did not receive a warning from Google, and did not give him an option to use the storage drive he was paying as an option to keep his backup.

These automatic deletions are not well advertised by Google, so use it as a reminder to log in once at a time to those backups if you plan to continue saving them.
